천경자 탄생 100주년 기념 특별전!

한국 미술사에 독보적인 발자취를 남긴 천경자 화백의 탄생 100주년을 기념하는 특별전이

천 화백의 고향인 전남 고흥분청문화박물관과 고흥아트센터에서 오는 11월 11일부터 12월 31일까지 열립니다.

이 특별전은 천경자 재단 설립자이며 이사장인 수미타 김(미국 몽고메리 대학 미술과 교수)이

본 특별전시의 총감독을 맡았습니다.

이번 전시는 <찬란한 전설 천경자>를 주제로 천경자 화백의 예술 세계를 재조명하는 동시에,

고흥이라는 지역적 맥락과 천 화백의 예술을 연결하는 새로운 시각을 제시할 예정입니다.

특히 천 화백의 대표작 중 하나인 1970년대 말의 ’탱고가 흐르는 황혼‘을 비롯해 채색화 40여 점, 드로잉 20여 점이 전시될 예정이며, 그간 공개되지 않았던 파리 시절의 유화 작품도 처음으로 선보이는 의미 있는 전시가 될 것입니다.

전시의 또 다른 하일라이트는 천 화백의 다채로운 아카이브 자료로 1960~70년대 당시로서는 드물게 유럽, 남태평양, 아프리카 등을 여행하며 그린 해외 스케치와 수필집, 친필편지, 생전의 영상 등이 공개됩니다.

국제적으로 명성이 높은 비디오 아티스트 이이남 작가가 ’고흥에서 아프리카로‘와 ’천경자 스케치의 살아있는 선, 그 에너지‘라는 제목의 작품으로 함께 전시에 참여합니다.

천 화백의 예술 세계뿐만 아니라 그의 삶과 여정을 더욱 깊이 있게 이해할 수 있는 전시에서 여러분을 초대합니다!

We’re excited to announce a special exhibition celebrating the 100th anniversary of Chun Kyung-Ja, an iconic figure in Korean art history. The exhibition will be held in her hometown, Goheung, Jeonnam, from November 11th to December 31st.

Our foundation’s founder and executive director, Sumita Kim (Professor of Art at Montgomery College, USA), is serving as the chief curator for this event.

Titled “A Splendid Legend, Chun Kyung-Ja,” this exhibition will re-examine the artistic legacy of Chun Kyung-Ja while exploring the connection between her art and her roots in Goheung.

The exhibition will feature over 40 of her vibrant colored paintings, 20 drawings, including one of her most famous works, ‘Tango in Twilight’ (late 1970s). For the first time, we will also showcase her never-before-seen oil paintings from her time in Paris.

One of the highlights will be a fascinating archive of her personal sketches, letters, travel journals, and videos from her global travels in the ‘60s and ‘70s, when it was rare to visit places like Europe, the South Pacific, and Africa.
